Information for current and potential host organisations of IB VAP

The Internationaler Bund – short IB – is one of the biggest independent organisations committed to both youth and social work, as well as education and vocational training in Germany. Its establishment IB VAP stands for Volunteers’ Abroad Programmes. Every year, two IB VAP Teams (one located in Fuerth/Franken, the other one in Kassel) send out young German volunteers (aged between 18 and 29 years) to our host organisations worldwide. Our current partners are located in several countries in South America, Africa, Europe, as well as the USA, Australia, New Zealand, India and Israel.

Usually, the voluntary services begin in August/September and end in July/August the following year.

Our volunteers are employed in social care for children, adolescents, elderly people and people with disabilities, in the field of human rights, education and development, communal work as well as in nature conservancy.

Performing voluntary service(s) abroad means showing commitment to peace, justice and dialogue between people from different cultural backgrounds. Furthermore, in a world that is continuously globalized, an international voluntary service contributes in a significant way to the personal development of young people.

We cooperate with the programs weltwärts (financially supported by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, BMZ), IJFD– International Youth Voluntary Service (financially supported by the German Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth, BMFSFJ) and offer also our own voluntary service IB Volunteers (self-financed).

Hosting an international volunteer will bring you a multicultural (working) atmosphere, a different vision of work and a lot of potential for innovation. It will also bring you in contact with a young person that is full of enthusiasm and eager to learn. This means an exchange process for the volunteer, the IB and for the host organisations.

Here are some voices of our partners’ respective taking part in international voluntary services:

We very much enjoy working with your organization and look forward to our continued collaboration.  Thank you very much for your hard work and cooperation.” (Camphill Village USA Inc.)

“El voluntariado de IB es muy importante para IPODERAC. Hemos tenido muy buenas experiencias de trabajo. Esperamos que podamos recibir más voluntarios de IB en nuestra institución.”(Instituto Poblano de Readaptación, A.C., Mexico)

“A mutual benefit for both – BSSK too acknowledges Volunteers greatly contribute towards the children in developing the social, emotional and communication skills of the children. And volunteers too gain knowledge about India, the culture and learn from their experience being with children with normal as well challenged children.” (BSSK India)

IB VAP Franken: We kindly request our partner organisations to help us evaluating the experiences with the volunteers on an annual basis, so that we can contimously improve our work. For this purpose, we have designed a brief questionnaire which should be filled and sent back to us via email. This questionaire ca be found here:  IB VAP evaluation all languages
